Clovelly Harbour, Devon, England, 2002
Clovelly played its part in smuggling using the many caves north of the harbour, reaching its height during the time of the Napoleonic Wars (1793-1815). Smuggling alcohol was especially popular to avoid paying the duty but there were strict penalties; fines, imprisonment, or even Transportation to Australia, for those caught.
